Repairing a Flat Tire on the side of the road can be dangerous. Let a professional manage the repair and/or spare replacement.

At Mr. Lock&Tire Roadside Assistance, we would like to extend some tips and knowledge to you so you don’t have to call a tow truck for every little thing.

One of the best things we are going to offer is a quick how to on changing a flat if you don't want to consult an expert such as Mr. Lock&Tire Roadside Assistance

  • First thing, make sure your car or truck is on a flat surface. Do not try to change your flat tire on an incline or decline. If you need to put a block or something in front of the wheels opposite of where you are jacking up your car, do so. This is referred to as chocking your wheels

  • Remove the hub cap if there is on and loosen the lug nuts while the tire is still on a solid surface. Make sure to turn the lug wrench to the left. Once you feel that they are able to loosened the rest of the way by hand, jack the car up about 6 inches

  • Finish unscrewing the lug nuts and remove the flat tire. If you have an SUV like me then there are tools to assemble a rod. The rod fits into an opening and the spare tire is lowered via a crank system. If you have a car you should be able to lift or unlock the tire from underneath the rug in the trunk

  • Now, lift the spare tire onto the lug nuts and tighten them as much as you can

  • Lower your jack and then tighten the nuts with a wrench and replace the hub cap

  • Find a replacement tire if your spare is a “donut” and you all know what I mean!

Doesn’t it seem easy when you present it in 5 easy steps? I would however suggest a practice run.

A few tips on avoiding a flat tire:

  • Check tire pressure. Under inflated are the most common cause for a blowout

  • Check tire tread. Use a quarter to measure. If the tread doesn’t extend past the top of Atlanta’s head, new tires are probably required

  • Rotate your tires on a regular schedule. Normally every 5,000 miles is recommended.

  • Look for debris on the road as you drive especially in Atlanta, Georgia

  • Pay attention to factory recalls or any news reports on your make and model of vehicle.

  • Oh, and don't lock your keys in your vehicle while you're in a hurry.
